Imagining a thesis defense and an artist statement that are unapologetic in prioritizing care and intentionality in a world often systemically designed to squash such endeavors.
Painted in large, hand-sketched letters, this "artist statement" is a bold declaration upon entering the Williams College studio building. Although a temporary installation, this position of care is a crucial part of my practice. Frustrated with the growing pressures and varying opinions, both internally and externally, around what can be considered "art enough" to be art, this piece is a resolute decision to make; to release the expectations of what art is and isn't; to allow myself the space to make what I need to make and say what I need to say.
This is my home. I will care for my people and name it Art.
